</font><font face="arial">Chris Aiken and Kirstie Simson will offer a
workshop in Contact Improvisation, drawing from over forty years of
combined experience both as teachers and performers. Their focus will be
on exploring the huge potential of the body's response to the primal urge
to move. Inspired by human interaction, physical challenge and
creative responses to the unknown, dancers will learn to push beyond
their limitations. They will build slowly, based upon simple
principles that expand outward towards full-bodied dances which are often
experienced as joyful and liberating.<br><br>
All levels are welcome, but come prepared to move and be moved.<br><br>
These two artists will be joined by Angie Hauser in an up close studio
performance Saturday evening at 7PM. Come see why these dancers are
venerated as Contact Improv “master practitioners” <br><br>

KIRSTIE SIMSON<br>
“Kirstie Simson is one of the legends of British Dance<br>
and one of the greatest exponents of Contact<br>
Improvisation" <i>Time Out Magazine</i>, London.<br><br>
"Kirstie Simson is justly celebrated in<br>
Britain for exquisite, sensuous dancing that seems to<br>
come from some simple force of nature".<br>

</i>Kirstie trained at the Laban Center, London and went on the next to
work extensively, performing and teaching throughout<br>
England, Europe and the USA. She has collaborated with<br>
many dancers and musicians who share a common interest<br>
in working with the freedom to explore ever new and<br>
exciting ways to go beyond limitation. These<br>
performers include Julyen Hamilton, with whom she<br>
worked in close partnership for some years, Steve<br>
Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Simone Forti, Pauline de<br>
Groot, Alessandro Certini, Andrew Harwood, Chris<br>
Aiken, Katie Duck, Philip Hamilton, Peter Jones,<br>
Russell Malliphant and others. She has been seen at<br>
the Dance Umbrella Festival in London, at DTW in New<br>
York City and many other performance venues worldwide.<br><br>
Kirstie has been a regular guest teacher at the School<br>
for New Dance Development Amsterdam, Dartington<br>
College England, Laban Center London, New York<br>
University, George Washington University Washington<br>
DC, Oberlin College Ohio, and Movement Research NYC.<br>
She has also been teaching dance companies all over<br>
the world, including Sasha Walz and Guests Berlin,<br>
Siobhan Davies Dance Company London, DV8 Physical<br>
Theater Company London and others. She teaches classes<br>
and workshops at many other colleges and centers<br>
throughout the world.<br><br>
CHRIS AIKEN<br>
Chris Aiken is a leading international teacher and performer in the field
of dance improvisation and Contact Improvisation. His movement experience
includes dance, theater, Contact Improvisation, compositional
improvisation, Alexander Technique(tm), yoga, release techniques and
athletic training. Over the past twenty years, Chris has performed and
collaborated extensively with many renowned dance artists including Steve
Paxton, Kirstie Simson, Nancy Stark Smith, Peter Bingham, Andrew Harwood,
Ray Chung, and Angie Hauser. He has been presented the Walker Art Center,
the Annenberg Center, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, DTW and Bates Dance
Festival, among others. He has received numerous awards including
fellowships from the Guggenheim, Bush and Jerome Foundations. <br><br>
ANGIE HAUSER<br>
Angie Hauser is a dancer whose work is grounded in improvisation and
performance. Her interests and background reflect the influence of
contact improvisation, post modern choreography, ballet and
Butoh. As an improviser, she collaborates with many
gifted artists including Chris Aiken, Lisa Gonzales, Kathleen Hermesdorf,
K.J. Holmes, and Darrell Jones. She is a member of the Bebe Miller
Company, where she contributes to the creation of award winning dance
works that are performed throughout the country. She has taught
improvisation and dance throughout the country including Bates Dance
Festival, Earthdance (MA), Cornell University, Movement Research (NYC)
and LINKS Hall (Chicago).<br>
