[Distutils] PYPI and packages for Python 2.x and 3.x

Sorry if this is already answered, but I have no found any reference
about this issue.

Suppose I have a package indexed in PYPI. I have two versions: python
2.x and 3.x. The code has C inside, so it is distributed as a tar.gz,
not an egg.

How is setuptools/easy_install to download the right version for my
python installation? :-??
