Every time that I do an install I comment out these parts of the code
(I really need to find an easier, more permanent solution :):

   $prefix/Mailman/CGI/admin.py: 
      around line 39, both archival and gateway options
   $prefix/Mailman/MailList.py:
      starting around line 492, everything including

         max_message_size
         num_spawns
         host_name
         web_page_url

This way the Web interface will not allow the listowners to make changes.  
Eventually I want to patch this so that someone coming in with the site
password can edit the fields, but the regular list admin can't.
