Assisting with the python.org website is mainly a matter of minor text edits and typo corrections (currently), so there isn't very much in the way of Python experience to be gained by helping out. We are currently in the middle of evaluating several proposals for a site redesign, after which there probably will be a lot of work and the current maintenance team is very small. So in the future there may be ways you can help.
