Bug #116682, was updated on 2000-Oct-11 22:05
Here is a current snapshot of the bug.
Project: Python
Category: None
Status: Closed
Resolution: None
Bug Group: Platform-specific
Priority: 5
Summary: 2.0 stalls Mac on external drive
Details: Both 2.0 and 1.52 cause problems when they are on an external drive. The machine boots fine on a cold boot, but on restart the alias in the extensions folder to Python core can't find the original file as the drive is not yet mounted and so the machine doesn't get past the Happy Mac. (This is on system 8.1). Perhaps it would work better if the original was in the system folder and the alias was in the Python folder?

Comment:
Various SIG users have tried to repeat this bug, but without success. However, as there are other problems with having the alias for PythonCore pointing to a different partition than the system disk (people have reported their applets not working, or working intermittently) the installer now detects this situation and offers to copy PythonCore in stead of aliasing it. That solution should fix this problem too.

Comment:
Never heard anything back from the original submittor, so I'll assume the copying of PythonCore has indeed
fixed the bug.
