</span>There's an effort currently underway to significantly improve the<br>
getting started tutorials on <a href="http://packaging.python.org" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">packaging.python.org</a>, but it's<br>
unfortunately going to be a long time before we can retire the legacy<br>
docs completely - while parts of them have aged badly (and are<br>
entirely superseded by <a href="http://packaging.python.org" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">packaging.python.org</a>), other parts<br>
unfortunately aren't covered anywhere else yet :(<br>

Even once the new docs are in place, getting them to the top of search<br>
of results ahead of archived material that may be years out of date is<br>
likely to still be a challenge - for example, even considering just<br>
the legacy distutils docs, the "3.1" and "2" docs appear in the<br>
results at <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=registering+with+the+package+index+site%3Apython.org&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.google.com/search?q=registering+with+the+package+index+site%3Apython.org&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8</a>,<br>
but the latest "3" docs don't.<br>
