Whenever I've tried to start an interactive Python session from within

an emacs shell in either W95, 98 or NT, the shell "hangs" as soon as I

give the "python" command on the shell command line. The hang is hard and

even when I kill the process, seems to damage my W9x session so that I

usually have to reboot the machine.

<p>I've seen this same problem in 3 consecutive versions of Python and

3 consecutive versions of the pre compiled (volker) emacs for Windows,

my latest try being with Python 1.52 and Windows emacs 20.4 (straight from

GNU repository)

<p>I've searched the Python newsgroup but found nothing about this problem.

Does anybody have any ideas on this?

<p>I'd really like to make this work because the same thing has always

worked so nicely on Unix and Linux.
