Problem is: you can make a point for all 6 "yes" and "no" answers. Plus 
for quite a few more questions:-)

Unless someone comes with a compelling argument to go one way or 
another, and not too many people disagree with that argument, I'll just 
leave it, and pick a whimsical solution when the time is there (read: 
we'll stick with .so in all probability:-).
