It might be best to close it, or at least add a note at the top of all
the "main" pages explaining the situation. That'd be better than
leaving stale data to lead new users astray.

Yes, that was one of the places. I sent several suggestions to
webmaster at python.org yesterday, pointing out inaccuracies and omissions
that I stumbled upon.
