Hmmm, I just tried downloading the monthly archives, intending to
concatenate them together for the Gmane admin.

I downloaded each month's "gzipped text file" from:

  http://mail.python.org/pipermail/soap/

but the gzipped text files appear scrambled.  Are they encrypted somehow?
