[soc2008-general] May I write a new python module for GSoC?

I don't quite understand what the project precisely would do (e.g. I
don't know what "ASS" is), but I feel that the primary problem of such
a proposal might be that it deals with a certain domain "from scratch",
i.e. without integrating in an existing project. We would like to
discourage such proposals, and prefer projects that add features to
existing software, rather than starting from zero.
