Good move. I suggest you to Join in irc and get familiar with the
Shell Programming, awk, sed, Python and C++ creating python modules
using C/C++. Algorithms and its programming. Try to read this book
http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~vazirani/algorithms/all.pdf
and implement all the programs using Python OOP, C++ OOP and C as
functional programming. Trust me u learn a lot how do develop and
implement.

Next step is to learn a framework like Django, OpenCV, PyQt.

It's a lot. Just remember Rome is not built in a day. May be in future
you start your own company and fund students to develop softwares.
