Oh well, it's the thought that counts.  I didn't manage to get the release after all; however, I did manage to get the What's New file done, and the release candidate works for me and for Neale.
 
Anthony/Richie - over to you.  If anyone feels like it, it occured to me (today) that there are probably a couple of fixes (the which_database ones, particularly) that could be copied over to the 1_0 branch, but it doesn't matter much if they aren't.
