Today Jeff and I spoke with Walker; here are some notes:<div><br></div><div>* The wiki registration page no longer requires a wiki password to edit</div><div>* Walker announced pyTexas verbally at the last Houston meeting; today he is following up via email to find out who is planning to attend</div>
<div>* We need to get some advance notice on the number of attendees because individual wireless accounts need to be set up at the conference location</div><div>* We've heard about a few more people planning to attend whose names are not yet on the wiki; those will be updated today</div>
<div>* We have no contacts with Austin Python user group members; today I'll join the Austin mailing list and try to make contact</div><div>* We'll make follow up calls to some Dallas user group members to see if they are planning to attend</div>
<div>* Observation from Walker: the unconference model may break down a bit when travel is involved; before people commit to travel time and expense they may want to know what to expect. To address that we'll go ahead and start adding the proposed talks to the schedule.</div>

Maybe we can come to a decision at today's meeting.<div>

pyTexas is only two about two weeks away and far only 10 people have registered, and nobody has stepped up to help with promotion. Also, I haven't heard anything about whether this event has been announced on the Houston and Austin mailing lists.<div>
<br></div><div>We're not going to have a beginner tracker since none of the local Python newbies have been informed about this learning opportunity.<div><br></div><div>Does it make sense to cancel and reschedule for sometime later? This event does not seem to be coming together. Does anyone have hotel booking commitments?</div>
<div><br></div><div>I think the organizers should have a conference call to discuss plans. How about Saturday at noon? Email me with your availability and I can provide conference call dial-in info.<br><div><div><br><div class="gmail_quote">

pyTexas is only about three weeks away and we haven't sent out any official announcements to python-announce; we should probably get that done this weekend. However the members of the local user groups have not registered on the wiki or sent mails to <a href="mailto:texas@python.org" target="_blank">texas@python.org</a> so I guess our announcement will say that attendance will be approximately 8.<div>
<br></div><div>Maybe the problem is that nobody knows the wiki password. That's easy to fix: I'm going to announce it on this list right now in defiance of all automated spambots. I don't think the spambots will be able to determine the password or link it to the URL if I explain it in human terms: the password is the name of the state where the conference will be held, with the first letter capitalized. The URL has been mentioned on a previous email and is also easy to find via Google.<br>
<div><br></div><div>We have some excellent talks under proposal by entertaining speakers, and I think it will be be a fun event of interest to most Python programmers and newbies. So... stand up and be counted! </div><div>
<br></div><div>(Houston and Austin Pythoneers -- please forward this to your respective mailing lists)</div></div>
