Free ($ sense) books I read and liked:

http://diveintopython.org/ (less easy)
Both of those can be bought in dead-tree form, as can
<http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lpython2/>
I'd start with the first and if you don't like it, try the next.
Either way, multiple books compliment each other.
