I'm going to be asking a lot of dumb questions
No problem. Your questions will help to improve BIT. All kinds of documentations and help files should be accessible via the "Help" menu in the GUI. Some of them do link to websites.
The first is to ask where I can find the help file for backintime-qt and how would I install it on a Ubuntu-based distro?
In Ubuntu and Debian there is not separate BIT package for help files (e.g. "backintime-doc" or something else).
The response to clicking on the Help menu and then selecting Help (F1)
The window that opens up via "Help (F1)" is the manpage of "backintime". It is the same you will see when typing "man backintime" on a shell. There is also "man backintime-config" describing the config file of backintime. But this is technical documentation and not for regular users. What kind of docu do you expect more? There do exist a "user manual". But it is outdated and won't add much new informations. https://backintime.readthedocs.io You can find answers to some usual questions and problems in the FAQ. https://github.com/bit-team/backintime/blob/dev/FAQ.md Please feel free to ask further.
