module unloading callback?

I've been wrapping a library thats documentation says you should init() and free() some internal data structures before and after you use it. I can put code in BOOST_MODULE_INIT to call init, but where would I put the tear-down code? Thanks.

Boost.Python Feature Request

Are there any patches or plans to add the following features to Boost.Python/Pyste? 1. A major usability problem of Boost generated proxies is that IDEs are not able to show any details about the expected parameters. Since Boost already knows everything about the function then it makes sense to at least make some information known about it via a docstring and then these tools can at least show that. 2. Another feature would append a docstring with the descriptive text to the specified Class, Function, or Method. 3. I often generate modules that require a very specific order of initialization for the proxies it contains. I often have to rearrange the _main.cpp's BOOST_PYTHON_MODULE code as depicted below to get my module to work. This: BOOST_PYTHON_MODULE(Sim) { Export_SzCoordPos(); Export_SzCoordAng(); Export_SzCoord(); Export_SzMath(); Export_SzPolyUtils() } To This: BOOST_PYTHON_MODULE(Sim) { Export_SzCoord(); Export_SzMath(); Export_SzPolyUtils() Export_SzCoordPos(); Export_SzCoordAng(); } It would be nice if this list would be generated in the order in which the pyste files are specified on the command line. 4. I would like a way to add pickling code to my class from pyste. I realize its not practical to generate this code automatically but I would at least like to be able to inline this in my pyste file. I can already insert code into the proxy with the declaration_code() feature to handle the pickle struct but I also need to be able to add a pickle method i.e.(".def_pickle(world_pickle_suite())" to the class definition I specify. Deriving from a PyTypeObject?

Hi Is it possible at all to derive a Boost.Python class from a PyTypeObject and not just other registered C++ classes? I wouldn't normally want to do it this way, but I have to interface with C code which uses the Python API directly. Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I couldn't find anything related. GNU Problem

Mike, I saw of the web that you had a problem back in Nov 02 where you were getting a SIGSEGV due to dyn-string.c (see link below). I know it was a long time ago, but did you find a solution? I am getting the same error but can't see what I am doing wrong, so I am thinking that it is deeper issue. gcc 3.4 pre-compiled header support?

David and I put in some effort to ensure that the boost 1.31 release candidate works with gcc 3.4 from the most current gcc CVS. I am also interested in trying out the new pre-compiled header support but I have now clue where to start. Could someone please share her/his expertise? Thanks! hi there, I'm looking for a way to call a python callable not with explicit arguments, but instead using the tuple / dict form, i.e. args = tuple('a', 'b') kwds = {'c':'C', 'd':'D'} f = foobar(*args, **kwds) I can't find any documentation on this, though. Is there a predefined 'call' function with the appropriate signature ? Thanks, Stefan

accessing instances of C++ objects in Python

Just to be clear on some stuff (working with the specific example of Boost): It IS possible to hand an instance of a C++ class to a python function say and have the python function treat the instance of the class like one that was exposed to it. And assuming that I can do this, it would follow that I can do that and any data changes will be reflected once I exit the call and am back in C++. That is really all I would strictly need, but I also have another question: Is it possible to get boost to treat an arbitrary offset like a variable. Essentially what I want to do is allocate a C++ class and a block of space for arbitrary data, and then have Python reference parts of the space as I want it to. Is there any sort of support for this type of thing at all? Or does it have to be a strict member variable (I could just read through the source, but there's a LOT of it :) Also as a side note: is there a more message board like aspect to this mailing list (I'm new to this form of discussion stuff, and I don't know how much my email address can take :).
