C++ singleton

Hello everybody, I am actually writing an interface to python for an existing C++ library using Boost. This library has a C++ singleton class. This class has only one constructor (with arguments) which is "protected" because it's a singleton. I am not able to build a Boost interface to this class because the compiler complains that the constructor I have given to Boost in the class_xxx constructor argument is not public (which is true) ! Therefore, my question is simple : How is it possible to interface such a class with only one constructor which is protected and a static method to create/access the object ? GCC version compatibility

The following message is a courtesy copy of an article that has been posted to gmane.comp.python.devel as well. Recently people testing Boost.Python with GCC on Linux have reported that the extensions being tested have to be compiled with exactly the same version of GCC as the Python they're being loaded into, or they get mysterious crashes. That doesn't correspond to my past experience; it has always been true that, as long as the compiler used to build Python and the one used to build the extension have compatible 'C' ABIs, we've been okay. Yes, if you were going to pass types like FILE* across the Python/C API, then you additionally need to be sure that the two compilers are using the same 'C' library. That said, none of the Boost.Python tests do that. I'm wondering if there has been a well-known recent change either in Python or GCC that would account for these new reports. Trying to clone (again)

I'm trying to clone a Python object from C++. The Python class inherits from an exposed C++ base class. Patch implementing void * support

The enclosed patch adds void * support to Boost.Python by making void an opaque type. Code that uses void * "just works" with this patch with no further effort required. Also enclosed is a testcase and the docs have been modified. Ran full testsuite on msvc7.1 and msvc6 - everything works. I don't have GCC to hand ATM, but apart from maybe a missing typename specifier I can't see anything which would fault. Cycles won't be deleted

Hello, I'm sorry if this question has already been asked but I didn't find an answer on the archives. With the Python code : class C: pass c1 = C() c2 = C() c1.child = c2 c2.parent = c1 del c1 del c2 import gc gc.collect() gc.collect() will return 2. Now if C is not a pure Python class but a BPL one, gc.collect() will return 0 and the 2 objects seem to never be deleted. I can define 'child' and 'parent' as members of the C++ class (using a shared_ptr and a weak_ptr, that works) but if an other cycle is defined in Python, the objects won't be deleted. Could someone explain me why such a behavior ? (I'm using Windows, Boost 1.33.1 and Visual Studio Express 2005) Thanks by advance Sylvain B.

Dear List, I intend to execute a Python script from within a C++ program. I have already managed to embed Python and execute a simple program line. Though, I have a complex data object in C++, which I don't want to serialize, write out to a file in order to read it in again. I would preferably like to define a Python object from within C++ and hand over this data structure directly. Unfortunately the Python/C API Reference Manual doesn't offer any precise help. It is more like a manual for experts, not a guide to beginners like me... So do you have any hint for me? Where can I get some more information? As said, I want to create a Python object in C++ and use it in Python afterwards. Thanks in advance, Markus

Patches for pyste

I have a patch that makes a couple of small changes to pyste. 1. Fix bug (??) where using pyste with gcc 4.0 and gccxml throws an exception for trying to convert NoneType to string in declarations.py. It looks like there are some cases where self.name can be none and in these cases the code fails. I modified the code to explicitly call str(self.name) when the name string is needed. It works fine for me. 2. Added feature of declaring an entire class final. I found myself often wanting to eliminate all polymorphic behavior for a class and the only way that is currently supported is to explicitly call final() on all virtual methods. This change allows you to call final() on a class as a whole. -Allen
