[Distutils] passing arguments to self.run_command

Is there a way to pass arguments to a command called by self.run_command? Anytime I try to add arguments by putting them inside the quotes I get an invalid command error, and self.run_command itself doesn't take any other arguments. Am I missing something? -Chris
