you might want to use the "test" extra: cf https://packaging.python.org/specifications/core-metadata/#provides-extra-multiple-use :
"Two feature names test and doc are reserved to mark dependencies that are needed for running automated tests and generating documentation, respectively"

In the past there was "tests_require" but as far as I know this is deprecated.

I tried to read obvious github issues but maybe I missed something so please
bear with me if this has come up way too often. I appreciate pointers.
