I get the "#! gibberish." What in the heck are "editor turds?" I agree with you about the characterization as a religious issue, however. On Linux/Unix platforms, it's a trivial matter to add symbolic links, and that seems to negate the extension issue, so I don't know why having scripts with extensions is so awful. Anyway, I see more and more of them cropping up in the various Linux distributions, so I think file extensions are going to come to Linux and Unix no matter how awful they seem to some.
