Here I thought I was being pretty clear that I was only requesting that things not be done to explicitly make it hard (or impossible) for someone else to extend setuptools (or whatever replaces / refactors it) to do these things.
I am +1 on this request. I am not a Windows users, but I would still like to see my applications appear in the menus when I ship them. And now free-desktop has a nice specification to do this, so it is technically possible. My 2 cents, Gaƫl
