Sorry all -- on vacation and only semi-online for a while...

I'd managed to miss Flit's creation, so I simply wasn't aware of it.

Now that I've had a chance to remedy that oversight, yes, flit sounds exactly like what I meant, so it could be worth recommending it ahead of a full distutils/setuptools based setup.py for simple projects.

neither did I - and it does look intriguing, though not (yet) what I had in mind. "my" idea of setuptool-lite would be a drop-in replacement for the parts of setuptools that we want to continue to support. i.e. not nearly as crippled as flit.

That being said, *I* don't have any use for pkg_resources, so maybe flit is pretty close :-)

but sdists are key.
