It appears that distutils is looking in /usr/lib/python2.3/config rather than /usr/lib64/python2.3/config
I haven't been able to easily locate where it's going wrong. Any ideas??
Check the Makefile you Python version has installed in lib/pythonX.X/config/Makefile distutils reads the specs from that file.
I'm using the distutils from Python-2.4.1 on Python-2.3.3 (64 bit).
