[edited repost of mail sent to catalog-sig yesterday] I have written a simple CGI and distutils command that handles registration of distutils package metadata in a central index. The intention is that this system is run on python.org, mostly to lend it an air of legitimacy. It's simple, it's bare-bones, it works: http://mechanicalcat.net:8081/ I just figured we needed _something_ to get out there to start the ball rolling. And I'm serious about the python.org part... I've trawled through the distutils archive and found several references to Trove, and "sounds like a good idea" but Trove metadata attributes never made it into distutils distribution metadata. Can anyone explain why? It'd make the above index a whole lot easier to search... Richard
