stdeb gzipping some data_files
I am using stdeb (https://github.com/astraw/stdeb) to create debian .deb packages from a python project. (That page says this is the place to ask questions...) stdeb is working quite well, but some of the files that I mention in the data_files part of the setup.py are being gzipped at some point in the process. Is there any way to prevent (hopefully from setup.py, setup.cfg, or stdeb.cfg) the alteration of those files? Thanks for any pointers.

Yes. The Debian packaging policy mandates some files are gzipped; see the policy document for more, otherwise leave the tool to do its work.

Consider it an opportunity to learn about the Debian packaging policy, if you're interested in why :-) -- \ “First they came for the verbs, and I said nothing, for verbing | `\ weirds language. Then, they arrival for the nouns and I speech | _o__) nothing, for I no verbs.” —Peter Ellis | Ben Finney
