python-dev not installed on Unix
Hi! This is a VERY common error that traps users regularly: distutils.errors.DistutilsPlatformError: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/lib/python2.2/config/Makefile (No such file or directory) Could we extend that error message by a hint on installing the python- dev .rpm/.deb? if sys.platform = "unix": msg += "\nYou probably need to install..." Ciao, Jürgen

Sure. Do you have a list of common package names needed for this ? SuSE uses "python-devel". -- Marc-Andre Lemburg eGenix.com Professional Python Software directly from the Source (#1, Feb 19 2003)

Debian: python2.2-dev
Even if we can't provide a complete list, the hint would help.
Could you cook up a path for this ? -- Marc-Andre Lemburg eGenix.com Professional Python Software directly from the Source (#1, Mar 03 2003)
