I was googling some things about distutils and debian packages, and came across some old emails that suggested that there was interest in adding deb packages as possible built distribution output. Do you know if anyone has actually done this? My version of distutils, 1.0.3, doesn't seem to have this functionality. Thanks for the info. I'm using it time to time to "debianize" python applications that are kind enough to provide setup.py file.
