"hello everyone" from a newcomer-Donghui
Hello Everybody, I am Donghui, a Chinese currently studying in Europe as a Ph.D. student. I have just subscribed to the doc-sig mailing list. Since last year, I have started using Python for my projects, and I found Python documents very helpful for me to learn this programming language. I am also aspired by the amazing free and open-source work associated with Python project. Thank you all for the wonderful work! Meanwhile I noticed there are Japanese and French versions of the document available beside the English version, but Chinese version doesn't exist yet. Previously, Mariatta, one in the python doc mail-list, has forwarded the Python document translation (PEP545) and doc-sig mailing list to me. I am very enthusiastic to offer a Chinese translation of the document on the official website. I hope this knowledge base can be accessed by more people from China where most people still have difficulty reading technical stuff in English. It would be very nice if someone can give me further information on how to proceed. If any person has started the Chinese translation, I will be very glad to join and contribute. I heard of two Chinese translations, zh-cn and zh-tw. - zh-tw is working here: https://github.com/python-doc-tw/python-doc-tw. - zh-cn has an official coordinator, Xiang Zhang, but I don't know the current status of this translation. Those project may or may not be mirrored on https://www.transifex.com/python-doc/public/. Anyway, for a translation to live, it needs translators, so feel free to contact one of those teams, and help them translating, either via transifex or via pull requests, it's a good start. (You may also organize translation workshops and so on if you want to speed-up the translation, translating alone is impossible). Then, as the PEP 545 is stating, the documentation can start to appear in the language switcher only when having fully translated the tutorial and some other pages, but if an active translation team would like to have its translation built by the server (typically to proofread), without being added to the language switcher, it may be allowd (documented in https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0545/#add-support-for-translations-in-do...). Hi Xiang, Great to hear from you! Yes, I am interested in the translation which could turn out to be helpful for Chinese people in general. And I treat it as a good way for me to learn Python as well. But I haven't posted any translation on v2ex, so it's not me. I can only do the translation in my spare time too, but I guess more people are willing to join once this project is activated. I am eager to kick-off the work. How many volunteers do we have now?
