tech requirements for hosting Docassemble interviews

Hello everyone, I recently came across this program while at the LSC ITC last week. I work for Maricopa County Superior Court and create the forms/automated systems for the Court. We are currently looking into alternatives for automated doc assembly programs other than our current program. In order for this to be presented to the higher-ups, they would want to know the cost associated with the program, as that was an issue we ran into with A2J Author and having to host with LHI and hotdocs. I would need to know what the tech requirements would be for hosting this program and any suggestions for platforms that other people have used with success and estimated cost. Any and all information/advice/help would be appreciated. Thank you! Lisa Lisa Boddington, Esq. Legal Forms Production Coordinator Law Library Resource Center Maricopa County Superior Court 101 W. Hi Lisa, I would recommend hosting on Amazon Web Services, using EC2 instances with the size t2.small at a minimum, S3 storage, and an RDS SQL server, also running on an instance with the size t2.small at a minimum. I would expect the cost of that to be on the order of $100 per month. If the system becomes slow when traffic is high, you could upgrade to a more powerful EC2 instance or use multiple EC2 instances through a load balancer. But even in that case, I wouldn't expect the monthly cost to go above $200 per month. You might be able to get by on a $20/month EC2 instance or other cloud machine, but if I were hosting a system, the peace of mind of an RDS server would be worth the extra ~ $55 per month. I have also used Microsoft Azure, which is generally pretty good, but a few times they have forcibly shut down my machines and then turned them on again, without even telling me, which causes problems. I have also used Linode for over 10 years, which has really good performance per dollar, good reliability, and good customer service, but it doesn't have all the features of AWS. If you are just going to run one server, and you take extra precautions for backing up, you could probably do pretty well with a $40/month Linode machine. Linode would work well if you have a Linux geek on staff. If your IT staff aren't comfortable maintaining AWS resources (e.g., making sure security patches are installed on virtual machines in the cloud), you could hire a vendor like http://katalystpartners.com to do that for you, but I don't know what they charge.
