For example >>> __debug__ = __debug__ SyntaxError: assignment to keyword 1. The page constants.html incorrectly says then are in the built-in namespace. Some of them were, once. 2. The list keyword.kwlist does not contain __debug__. (Problem in Lib/keyword.py.) 3. https://docs.python.org/3/reference/datamodel.html for None, NotImplemented, etc. 4. There may be other places that need looking at. However, there is no documentation of this: https://docs.python.org/3.7/library/csv.html#csv.csvwriter.writerow Is this behavior part of the method's "contract"? And if so, shouldn't we document it? next() and count() method don't work.

Hon'able Python Team, I am learning python, and I was trying to build an algorithm that could count the recurrence of the items in a set at run-time, that is, counting the the number of occurrence in the set defined by the user, I tried using multiple next() and count() method. As next() method works only within the code, that is, it doesn't accept external values outside the loop, I tried using while loop, but still didn't get the desired output. I am using Python 3.7.2 and I am sending you screenshots as an attachment. Kindly look into the same and let me know. Thank You. Regards.

Possible Documentation bug: Chapter 8. Errors and Exceptions

Hello, I was going through the chapter as per the below link : https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/errors.html#handling-exceptions The code shown is as below: class B(Exception): pass class C(B): pass class D(C): pass for cls in [B, C, D]: try: raise cls() except D: print("D") except C: print("C") except B: print("B") - Now as per the above code the statement written below confused me a little: *"A class in an except <https://docs.python.org/3/reference/compound_stmts.html#except> clause is compatible with an exception if it is the same class or a base class thereof (but not the other way around — an except clause listing a derived class is not compatible with a base class)."* - A class in the except clause is compatible with an exception if it is the same class: I agree to this. - However, the next part "or a base class thereof" confused me. Does this mean that if it is a base class (i.e a class which inherits from the exception class and is the base class of all the other classes C & D) only then will it be compatible? - Because if i reverse the order of the except clauses, the only prints would be 'B','B' and 'B'. I think this elaboration needs to be done. I would request you to provide your insights on this. Thanks and Regards, Rahul

Definition of Julian day

Hi, On your documentation web page https://docs.python.org/2/library/time.html it says: The Julian day *n* (1 <= *n* <= 365). .... Despite common usage, what you are defining is the day of the year, not the "Julian day." Julian time is a complete time/date definition system based on a reference time of noon Universal Time on January 1, 4713 BC (on the Julian calendar). This system originates in the astronomical community. (See references below.) I'm really surprised that there aren't native Python functions to convert in and out of Julian time, given that there are plenty of astronomers writing code in Python. Anyway, you might want to write "day of year, sometimes (erroneously) referred to as Julian day," or something like that. https://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/JulianDate.php https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_day Along the same lines, I think it's silly to use a start year of 1970 for your time reference, even if that's a UNIX convention. A few things we care about happened before 1970 -- and a few more will happen after 2038. Hard endpoints are incredibly limiting. This is why Matlab defines a reference date of Jan. 1, 0000, and other people use Julian time, which has an admittedly bizarre reference time. Thanks, Laura H.
