Hello, I believe I have may have found a bug in the search function of the re library. As per the documentation <https://docs.python.org/3/library/re.html#re.search>: re.search(*pattern*, *string*, *flags=0*) <https://docs.python.org/3/library/re.html#re.search> Scan through *string* looking for the first location where the regular expression *pattern* produces a match, and return a corresponding match object <https://docs.python.org/3/library/re.html#match-objects>. Return None if no position in the string matches the pattern; note that this is different from finding a zero-length match at some point in the string. *This returns the first location where pattern produces a match* Take this example: *match = re.search(r'(- .*:)', "- Joseph: That's cool - but don't overdo it :D")* *print(match.group(0))* I would expect the print to show: *"- Joseph:" * however it shows: * "- Joseph: That's cool - but don't overdo it :"* The *:* that are being matched correspond to the second *:* and not the first. New submission from Hrvoje Nikšić <hniksic(a)gmail.com>: The docs of SelectorEventLoop and ProactorEventLoop contain examples that call asyncio.set_event_loop: selector = selectors.SelectSelector() loop = asyncio.SelectorEventLoop(selector) asyncio.set_event_loop(loop) But this won't have any effect on code that uses asyncio.run(), because asyncio.run() creates a fresh event loop. Since asyncio.run() is the recommended way to execute async code and is used consistently throughout the documentation, this might be confusing to someone who tries to e.g. use the proactor loop on Windows.
