With 3.8 the "Assignment Expression" operator was included, but all the docs seem to point towards PEP 572: Assignment Expressions. Is someone documenting this feature already? I would like to offer my help. I imagine there are a couple of sites where changes are needed. Some text needs to be written which will end up on docs.python.org; however I came across the lack of documentation when fiddling around with 'help'. The topics section mentions := expressions only with regards to operator precedence but other than that there is no info to be fond (I believe it should live with 'assignment' or 'augmented assignment'). If someone is taking care of the official rsts, would be glad to make sure it connects with pydoc (from my superficial look into the system it seems like topics.py are generated, but pydoc.help still needs an entry into a dictionary so that help(':=') knows what to produce ). Please note though that I am not a known member of the python dev community yet, just a passerby, this I am not familiar with all community processes. I am happy to be pointed in the right direction to raise the issue; I wrote this email after addressing it via #python-dev on irc.
