good programing env features?
Hi, it not directly Py oriented -- but I think you have some hints :) We are trying to choose among programming envs for 5th graders: Scratch https://pencilcode.net https://edublocks.org MicroBit blocks Logo CodeMonkey and the discussions are a bit chaotic based on each ones experience... Maybe you know like 5 good aspects/categories to evaluate by? kind of like here, but may be more abstract https://github.com/aroberge/reeborg-howto/blob/master/src/checklist.md -- Jurgis Pralgauskis tel: 8-616 77613; Don't worry, be happy and make things better ;) https://galvosukykla.wordpress.com/
Having worked on a (medical) checklist app, are you looking for more of a rubric? Factor weightings for comparing potential dev environments? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubric_(academic) https://www.google.com/search?q=rubric&tbm=isch https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=Rubric&rs=sitelinks_searchbox Features OTOH: - Open Source (bool) - License (str) - Cost: per seat (Decimal) - Works Offline - Can be used from home - Can edit actual source code with text editor - Can write automated tests - Grades responses - Has skills assessments - Can recommend exercises for focus areas - Holds Class-Instructor-Student personal info - Stores instructors' code in git - Stores students' code in git - Ctrl-Z to *undo* works - Stores students' grades in {git, database} - Can randomize order of questions - Can randomize questions from templates and code - Can run on an ARM64 {Pi,} https://github.com/quobit/awesome-python-in-education#interactive-environmen... How can you ask about improving on the above checklist? ;-) ;-) I have suggestions for only two criteria: * Availability of online documentation in a language that can be understood by the students, so that interested students can explore beyond what is shown in the classroom. * Think of the extreme **stereotypical** boy and girl: can the programming environment (and chosen activities!) cater to both of these extremes. Please, share back what your group decides upon! André
