Folks, Here is a suggestion, please use inpycon list for discussing PyCon related discussions. Report bugs at: http://groups.google.com/group/fossconf-devel Also, there was a discussion on stability of the software and consideration for alternatives. My opinion is, fossconf is stable enough.. Just go ahead, test it, raise and fix bugs ( which would be done quickly) and lets use it. I dont see any reason why it should not be up for our use by June 7th. Also fossconf was used for an earlier conference, so it should make us worry. Thanks, Senthil

Error while logging out admin

Hi, I logging in with admin privileges and get this error while logging out. Page not found (404) Request Method: GET Request URL: http://greenchilly.in/admin/admin/logout/ And a long traceback from Django. Kenneth, something needs to be done to take care of errors gracefully without the default action of the Python traceback being printed. How does typical Django sites take care of this? I would think that they would have specific error templates for handing most web page errors. There is one more error when I try to log out from http://greenchilly.in/admin/sites/site/admin/logout/ . ValueError at /admin/sites/site/admin/logout/ invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'admin/logout' Request Method: GET However these are admin errors and not priority since they don't directly affect user experience. Still I am reporting it. Anyway, the error management should be more graceful than now, since tracebacks are being printed for user level errors also. Regards, -- -Anand

PyCon Logo decision

Hello everyone, We have a decent number of logos to choose from now. I think it would be okay to close the contest on Tuesday (26/May). After that, we can start voting. Since the voting started before the entries were all in, there's a lot of noise. I propose that we cancel the existing votes and ask people to vote again. Is everyone okay with that? Website bugs

Hi, I see a long list of website issues being posted to this list. The thing that concerns me is would Kenneth and his team be able to track everything via this mailing list ? A mailing list is not meant for posting and following up such issues. It can at best be used as a discussion forum . I don't think it is a good idea to continue posting issues to the list. Can a Trac or similar issue tracker be added to the site quickly to take care of this ? Otherwise, we could simply create a google code project and use it only to track issues without using it to manage the code. Of course, the negative of this is that this can become a mini project of its own and we could get side-tracked and lose focus. However considering the amount of issues being reported, this seems to be happening someway in the mailing list itself. We need to iron out all major issues with the website and templates/CSS etc within 2-3 weeks max and open it up by June end at least. Otherwise we could get derailed. If not a tracker, at least a progress report should be maintained somewhere which lists all issues and its criticality, status etc. It could even be a Wiki on the python.org site. However without tracking these issues, I don't see we are going anywhere. Regards, -- -Anand

hi, 1. Can all user folks who register on the site add a talk ? http://greenchilly.in/addtalk/, lists all the names in the field "Speaker(s)". This seems like a superfluous detail if I am going to add my talk since i have already logged in. can some on explain this ? apologies if this has been discussed earlier but i am just catching up on inpycon mail. 2. Hello everyone, I spent some time yesterday looking through the existing PyCon sites and tried to come up with a list of 'features' that a site needs. I then tried to evaluate greenchilly against that. Here are my feelings. 0. Static pages with categories and a navbar We need to be able to create single pages like "About", etc. which should be classifiable according to category. A navbar should allow navigation 1. Blog The site *has* to have a blog. It would be nice if it supported podcasts but that might leech our bandwidth too much. 2. Registration system People should be able to register in advance (ie. Register and get some kind of token which they can use to pay at the venue on the date of the conference) 3. Link lists A way to add a list of links to other sites 4. Uploading content A way for people to upload their presentations and stuff so that we can archive them for the future. I think 0, 3, 4 (and perhaps 1) can be covered by a wiki or a CMS. 2. is 'conference specific functionality'. If there's anything else people can think of, please chime in. I think the greenchilly db was reset so I don't have access to the admin section to try everything out. However, KEnneth can probably tell us whether these things are satisfied. If we can get clear answers for these, we can wrap up the site business quickly. Thanks. -- ~noufal
