Stickers for Python Express

Hi, We distributed python stickers last time at the python workshops done as part of Python Month. We would like to do the same this year. One of the issues last time was sending the stickers to speaker in time. We had couple of volunteers, but that didn't workout very well. I've spoken to Isaac of Sticky Stamp and they charge Rs. 6 per piece for 1000 and more. They are open to reduce the price slightly and ready to take care of drop shipping (sending the stickers to speakers directly). I think this is going to be very helpful as we plan to run Python Express though out the year. My plan is to send 200 stickers to each speaker so that he can use them for about 3 workshops. If we order 5000 stickers, that'll cost slightly less than Rs. 30,000. Please let me know if this look alright. Anand

PyCon Talk - Introduction to BinPy - Change in the Speaker.

Hi all, This is regarding the talk "Introduction to BinPy - An Electronic Simulation Library" which has been selected for PyCon India 2014. Salil, who was the original speaker, has his TOEFL exam on that day in Bhopal and hence he'll not be available for the talk. This is an unforeseen issue. I am Raghav R V, one of the core developers of BinPy. I’m also working on it as my GSoC project. Based upon discussions with my community I will be giving the talk instead of Salil. Proposal - Panel discussion for the Web Track of Pycon

All, I'd like to propose a panel discussion topic for the web track of this year's Pycon. I'm volunteering myself to help run the panel if this is a topic we think is worthy. I think it's good to have a topic that has a heathy debate. Such topics are engaging for the audience, and also bring forth a number of useful takeaways. Topic: Flask vs Django vs Bottle vs Pyramid vs YAPWF The specific frameworks we choose will depend a bit on the panelists, their expertise and how relevant the comparisons may be. I will likely have each panelist choose a framework that they will be a bit vocal about, in order to keep the discussion engaging. How does this sound? Should we do it? Screening of "The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz" during PyCon India 2014

Hi friends, This is Vignesh Prabhu and I am a volunteer at Free Software Movement Karnataka(FSMK). FSMK recently conducted a 9 days Summer Camp on Free Software Technologies which was participated by 183 participants and 30 volunteers. As part of the camp, we had a screening of the movie, The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz followed by a discussion with Lawrence Liang from Alternative Law Forum. The screening was received very well by participants and there were quite a good number of questions and opinions from participants. The movie is very well made to make the general public understand the whole circumstances which lead Aaron to commit suicide. I was wondering if there is any chance for PyCon India 2014 to make a similar screening for its participants/general public whichever it seems fit and possible in the evening on the day of conference. Apart from Aaron's connection to Python through many projects, web.py being one of the popular ones, I think one of the main reason why PyCon India needs to do the screening is that it is one of the premier conference which brings in good mix of people from various interests and backgrounds to Bangalore and hence very good place to inform people about the story of Aaron Swartz. Currently I dont think there is any other conference like PyCon India which is organized in Bangalore which would be suitable for such screening, especially since FOSS.IN is no longer being organized. Another reason is that it would be very difficult for anyone to organize similar screening in as good venue as Nimhans Convention Hall which has a very good seating capacity and can accommodate large crowd. Hope the community will consider the request and will make it possible so that ideas of Aaron Swartz and his story reaches and inspires many more people. Earlier this year when we suggestions were being taken for the pycon I suggested To setup a local mirror of pypi using devpi for the event to reduce the network bandwidth during the event. Open spaces & Lightning Talks

Hi All, I was watching talks from 2014 Pycon and there is a lightning talk[1] where Greg of the aosabook fame talks about how they want people to come together in an open space and work on something. I feel that we should make way from great discussions like those. Last year, I do remember that we had open spaces but they were tucked away in some corner of the place and it didn't attract too much attention (correct me if I am wrong) What I feel is this time, we should bring more (way more) focus to Open spaces and Lighting Talks. PyCon India 2015

Hello everyone, Every year at AGM (Annual General body Meeting) of PSSI we decide where to host PyCon India for next year. Every time, we see lot of people raising their hands to run PyCon India in their city. Interested Individual/Group who want to take the lead next year should do some homework before AGM and convince the community that they can run the conference effectively. Interested? Here is what you can do now. * Call for a meeting in your city, preferably in the python usergroup mailing list and discuss with everyone. * PyCon India requires a venue of 1000+ capacity. Find out what venues are available in your city and how much it costs. (This year we are paying close to 2L/day for NIMHANS). * PyCon India requires a lot of sponsorships to meet the expenditure. Major part of the sponsorships usually comes from the hosting city. * PyCon India gets better every year. We would like that to continue even after it moves to a different city. You should get involved in running the event this year and understand better. Any comments? Thanks Vijay
