Hi, As per our discussion in AGM, we are planning to provide child care facility for people in need @ PyCon India venue. We can reach out to PSSI to cover 50% of the expense and the remaining amount by the individual who avails this facility. We are looking for organizations who can help us take care of kids at the venue throughout the conference days. Please provide us the details of organizations if you know any. Please feel free to provide any other suggestions about this initiative. Thanks, Vijay

Lesson learnt: you can't have some random stranger take care of your kids. A parent or guardian must do this. Requirements change by the child's age and I only have experience handling a child <1 year, so in that case: 1. A quiet zone for the kid to sleep. 2. Space for the kid to crawl/run around without risk of having an adult step on them. 3. A couch or mattress so it's soft ground for the kid and allows the parent to sit there and work. 4. Access to a bathroom with a changing station for diapers. Kids poop. 5. Proximity to the main activities so the parent can still participate in the event. Note that none of these require an external agency or involve any expenses (apart from renting the couch/mattress). I'm not clear on the pricing. Is it something that participants will have to pay for separately? Or do we pay something to the vendors upfront based on an expected number of children? Also, it would be nice to publicise this a little to see how many will avail of the facility. If the projected numbers are very low and this costs us money, it might be better to scrap it. As per Initial plan each participants will share 50% of cost remaining 50% of the cost can be shared by PyCon India team. We will not be paying upfront to vendors. Max number of kids: 30-35. For us it will cost us 250 X 3X 35 = 26250 and Food cost for the kids. If we have cost issue we can ask participant to share full cost but get this facility this year. This will help lot of female developer to attend conference . On Sun, Apr 26, 2015 at 1:33 PM, Noufal Ibrahim KV <noufal@nibrahim.net.in> wrote:

Makes sense to me. For a maximum of 30-35 kids, I don't see much sense in trying to get numbers up front. [...] -- Cordially, Noufal http://nibrahim.net.in

Is there any commitment from our side on the minimum number of children? If only 2 children use that facility, do we need to pay only Rs. 1000/- per day? Anand
Yes, we've been progressively improving this space over the last few events. We have it mapped out now for MLR JP Nagar, but not for Nimhans. Kiran -- Kiran Jonnalagadda http://jace.zaiki.in http://hasgeek.com On Wed, Mar 18, 2015 at 4:19 PM, Noufal Ibrahim KV <noufal@nibrahim.net.in> wrote:

One other thing: many parents will already have care takers for their kids, but (a) younger kids can't be left at home or with the caretaker for more than 2-3 hours at a time, and (b) if the caretaker can come to the venue, the entry fee is a barrier. Having a caretaker pass could be an easy answer. Kiran -- Kiran Jonnalagadda http://jace.zaiki.in http://hasgeek.com On Wed, Mar 25, 2015 at 5:54 PM, Kiran Jonnalagadda <jace@pobox.com> wrote:

Comes down to ethics... Who uses those caretaker passes and for what purpose. Again investing resources to prevent misuse of such passes. I might be way too skeptic mentioning ethics but if there are many (a measure could be more than a certain percentage of total attendees) people requesting caretaker passes organizers might need to take this into consideration. That's okay. We'll design the system for "good people". Even if some people abuse it, the good people won't suffer. If, in the unlikely case, most of the people start abusing it, we'll change it and redesign it for "bad people". [...] -- Cordially, Noufal http://nibrahim.net.in

Perhaps: issue a caretaker pass on the spot to one adult accompanying a child. Kiran -- Kiran Jonnalagadda http://jace.zaiki.in http://hasgeek.com
