Hi, We are late in finalizing the keynote speaker. The registration is already open, CFP deadline around the corner. We have finalized the keynote speakers by then. Anyway, let me summarized the discussion and move forward. Options: * Hilary Mason - can't come * Armin - Noufal is taking to him * Michel Ford * Jessica McKellar I personally think would be nice to have Jessica McKellar. She has been trying to help the indian python user groups. I've received couple of emails from her asking if we need any support from PSF for bangpypers. I think having her here in person will be good to the community and improves our ties with PSF. Also having a female keynote speaker will be good for diversity. There were suggestion to invite someone from mozilla as guest speaker. Abdul Ralf was taking to them. Abdul, any updates? There was a suggestion to invote Senthil Kumaran as a guest speaker. I can talk to him if everyone agrees to that. Apart from these, there were discussion about having an indian keynote speaker. Do you any suggestion for someone who can add a lot of value to the Python community? May be someone from government? or FOSS community? Anand
+1 for Jessica McKellar and Senthil . Last time I remember we asked PSF to sponsor meetup fee. Not sure what is the status of it. As of now that is the priority, we can reach out to PSF for other helps as needed. On Sun, May 18, 2014 at 6:11 PM, Anand Chitipothu <anandology@gmail.com>wrote:

Jessica replied saying that she needs a few days to check whether she'll be free. Armin hasn't replied yet. Apropos people from India, can we have both Senthil and Kushal? I think Senthil would make a good keynote speaker since he's been in the community as a core developer for a long time. Kushal is a newer entrant and I'm not sure if a keynote slot would be appropriate but we can invite him to present a talk on his journey to being a core developer and make it an invited guest talk. Opinions? -- Cordially, Noufal http://nibrahim.net.in

Two keynote, one guest one panel sound fine to me.

IIRC, Kushal was proposed as a keynote speaker. Why not go with Kushal as a keynote speaker? Kushal has been into Python for 9+ years and has contributed to numerous open source projects. I support Kushal for the following reasons: - CPython core developer from India - A veteran mentor on FOSS technologies - Upstream and contributor to various open source projects (apart from work) - Running DGPLUG summer training successfully for years. DGPLUG summer training has produced numerous contributors to and upstreams of open source projects. - Hails from an underdog college with limited infrastructure and support. He's got hell of a real life experience to share on how he started with FOSS and created DGPLUG from scratch to help young minds get into and contribute to FOSS. +0 I'm interested to hear his experiences of becoming cpython core dev, but at the same time I prefer to have him as keynote speaker for next year, not this year. He is contesting for a position in the PSF board. As a PSF member, I would surely support him as having someone from India in the PSF board is going to help the Indian Python community a lot. I'm hopeful that he'll succeed. If we wait for an year, we can have him as keynote speaker, representing PSF. So my suggestion is to have him as invited speaker this year and consider as keynote for next year. What do you think? Anand

Hi,
We are late in finalizing the keynote speaker.
The registration is already open, CFP deadline around the corner. We have finalized the keynote speakers by then.
Anyway, let me summarized the discussion and move forward.
Options:
* Hilary Mason - can't come * Armin - Noufal is taking to him * Michel Ford * Jessica McKellar
I personally think would be nice to have Jessica McKellar.
