Hi Everyone, While we wait for the confirmation of the dates, we can start the keynote speaker selection process. For people new to the conference, the keynotes at PyCon India, are inspiring talks from speakers, that leave a lasting impact on the conference attendees. The keynote speakers also help to tip the scales, for people having second thoughts about attending the conference. This increases participation in the conference and enriches the overall experience of the conference. As indicated in the proposal we will be having 4 keynote speakers. Please send in your keynote speaker suggestion, to the mailing list. Please send in one keynote speaker suggestion per mail, containing a brief description about the speaker. If you like a suggestion, use +1 style voting to indicate preference for a particular keynote speaker. Once the dates are confirmed, we will ping the keynote speakers in the order of preference. Regards, Vijay

Dear Ram, Please read the initial mail carefully. Vijay has clearly mentioned that you should suggest one keynote speaker per mail. That will bring the easiness to vote on individual speaker. Thanks!

Nope.
Getting a speaker from abroad is expensive and a good part of the budget hence we usually have to be picky. If there's sufficient +1s, we could invite him again.
I'd +1 Raymond anytime. There's not much he says that isn't valuable.

+1 for Mariatta. I think it's grossly unfair to have just "She's a Python Core Developer" as a description for her. She received the PSF Community Service Award in Q3 2018. Since there are a lot of participation in this thread (which is good) , here are a few characteristics one would look in a keynote speaker, whether foreign or domestic - in approximately decreasing priority. 1. Engages with the audience, at all experience levels. 2. Recounts his personal experiences with Python language/community. 3. Does not get too technical with the talk. Technical keynotes are at best boring and at worst, disasters. 4. (Ideally) is/has been in a position in his professional life that the audience can look up to. 5. Made his own personal impact on the community/language in some way. I am somewhat against people who have done (5) so much they are their own personal brands. But that is a personal opinion.

I would like to propose Sayan Chowdhury (http://www.sayanchowdhury.com/). The main reason I propose him is because of his impact on the up and coming generation as well as his commitment in helping them grow. This point was driven home when for the DjangoGirls workshop this month, one of the mentors was one of his students. To inspire and teach someone to grow and get them to a position where they can help others is an extremely important and admirable trait. I don't know if he fits the bill exactly on all the criteria that Anand Pillai mentioned in one of the earlier emails, but from his own personal technical open source contributions, to his sincere & passionate effort in mentoring people, to his approachable attitude all contributes to a keynote worthy character for mainly the younger generation of programmers to look up to, communicate with, and learn from. Oh yeah, and I recently figured out he is quite an awesome artist too. :)

I would suggest Speaker from renowned Cloud Tech Startup went IPO Last year. Mohammed Imran K R: Imran runs E2E’s cloud computing operations and initiatives using his extensive experience in cloud computing, networking, and open-source software. During the initial stages of his career, he worked on Wireless Network protocols (IEEE 802.11) and he continued pursuing his interest in Wireless Network Protocols by researching and submitting his thesis in MS in Information and Communication (by Research). Imran has been an avid user and supporter of Open Source and has deployed FOSS solutions on different domains for leading organizations and educational institutions. +1.
I don't know if he fits the bill exactly on all the criteria that Anand Pillai mentioned in one of the earlier emails, but from his own personal technical open source contributions, to his sincere & passionate effort in mentoring people, to his approachable attitude all contributes to a keynote worthy character for mainly the younger generation of programmers to look up to, communicate with, and learn from.
a big echo to this. I am aware that the suggestions were closed yesterday, but still dropping to support the suggestion. -- Regards, Swati Jaiswal <http://swatij.me> _______________________________________________ https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/inpycon Mailing list guidelines : http://www.shakthimaan.com/downloads/glv/presentations/mailing-list-etiquett...

Once the dates are confirmed, we will ping the keynote speakers in the order of preference
I want to suggest Adivi Sarva Lakshmi Devi's (A S L Devi) name as the keynote speaker. Devi is an independent software consultant and a trainer with an experience of more than 12 years in the industry. She has given couple of talks and a workshop at PyCon India before, which were very well received. She has done http://M.Tech in Computational Science from IISc, before which she tried out teaching mathematics. She is a consistent and valuable part of Python India community. I remember PyCon India 2012 when I first met this mom of 2, she was one of (unfortunately) very few women Python programmer in our community. She is giving courage to many of us, the women in our community. Now it is high time that I think we should appreciate her and let all the newbies and everyone be inspired. Cheers Anwesha

Hi Everyone, We have some good news! Based on the suggestions on the mailing list, and inputs from the keynote speaker selection panel, we sent out invites to the following speakers: Wes McKinney, David Beazley, Jake Vanderplas, Brett Cannon, Ines Montani and Victor Stinner. And the following have accepted our invite: * David Beazley * Ines Montani * Victor Stinner With this, we have nice mix of keynote speakers from various areas related to Python. * David Beazley for frameworks in general and Async IO in particular. * Ines Montani for NLP & AI, business and women-in-tech. Incidentally, Matthew Honnibal is also accompanying Ines to to PyCon India. * Victor Stinner for core Python and community building. Victor Stinner is especially pumped-up and hopes to see to that his presence would result in more contribution to Core Python from India. And eventually result in more Core Python developers from the Indian community. We have asked the keynote speakers for their photos and short-bios. Once we get them, we will start making announcements and will update the website next week. I would like to thank Ramanathan (from HydPy) and Kushal Das, for helping us in getting touch with the keynote speakers, and for following-up with them. Regards, Vijay
