Dear Declan,
The leads have translation invariance in the x-direction. You should not
put a condition such as (0 <= x <= L_lead ) in your lead_shape function.
You can notice that kwant does not plot the leads are you expect them to be.
Please change your function to:

(x, y) = site.pos
return 0 <= y <= W_lead
