I believe the problem is that version 1.1.33 of libxslt has not actually been released and there is only a rc1 source tarball.
Yes, that is the reason. The build support in the latest lxml release doesn't deal well with this case.
How can I work around this issue?
You can set the env var LIBXSLT_VERSION=1.1.32 (or probably also LIBXSLT_VERSION=1.1.33-rc1).
I would like to do a static build of libxml and libxslt because I am attempting to track down a memory issue and I want to be running the latest released versions of those libraries, as opposed to the versions offered by the host operating system.
