[Madison] welcome, and upcoming meeting

Welcome to new list members!
Since this list is starting to grow but have very little traffic (as yet), I thought it might be worthwhile for us to briefly introduce ourselves and describe what we're looking for from the group.
Me: dropout from a Ph.D. program in computer science at the University of Toronto (in formal methods, if you must know..); I first got into Python through working at Microsoft, of all places, where I spent a very enjoyable six months working on IronPython, the version of Python built atop the .NET Framework. This last spring I went to PyCon in Chicago, where I found there was no user group in Madison, but plenty of advice on how to start one, so I am attempting to do so. Things have become a bit frenetic in my life, which has interfered with promoting the group, but perhaps some of you can help spread the word. :)
Our next meeting is scheduled for the coming Tuesday, July 22nd, at the Madison Central Public Library at 7PM. All welcome!
-Benet

I'm Jim Steil and I'm been using Python for the past 3 years or so. I'm interested in learning more about Python and helping to promote it in the Madison area. I live and work in Dodgeville but have spent the past 20 years working in IT in the Madison area. I have significant past experience with the IBM AS/400 (and past President of the Madison user group) and PowerBuilder. I'm currently a heavy user of TurboGears and ReportLab. Looking forward to learning new things and sharing what I've already learned. I attended PyCon in Dallas in 2007.

While I don't have any Python knowledge Its always been on the top of the "to learn" list of programming languages. I tend to mostly be a PHP programmer.
I'm active in building community (check out the other local groups: http://icanhaz.com/wisc). Next weekend is BarCampMadison2 ( http://barcampmadison2.org). Hope you will all come and geek out with us. One session I'm thinking of leading is "Come Learn Python With Me" where a bunch of people interested in learning Python would get together and start playing around with it.
I also run a small web development company called PoseurTech LLC which mostly builds web applications that incorperate new technology such as OpenID, Twitter, etc.
Not sure if I will be able to make it to this months meeting but I will try.
