Summary: trojan problem
Initial Comment:
more a observed comment but may have other implications
recently i was running bit defender antivirus on my pc
and found it reported
/usr/lib/mailman/tests/msgs/nimda.txt=>(IFRAME) infected:
Trojan.Exploit.Html.Iframe.Filedownload.AW <-
cevakrnl.xmd
from what i can gather the file is one used for testing
(not shure if the actual exploit code needs to be there for
that though)
but it raises an issue
in that because of the file being included in the distributed
code it may cause some distributions from including the
whole package in there distributions
and may also possibaly in some cercumstances lead to
legal action
as it may be construded that this trojan code is being
distributed
just feel that this should be pointed out to you

The file never contained any trojan code. It is safe to look at
it and if you do, you'll see that it is mostly MIME headers and
a few bits of innocuous content.
As of Mailman 2.1.6, the file is no longer in the distribution.

Summary: Dutch translation wrong
Initial Comment:
On some versions i've seen 'Uw bent' in the dutch
translation of certain messages, this should be 'U
bent' (uw is possesive):
# grep "Uw bent" * -r
messages/nl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po:"Uw bent op deze
lijst aangemeld met het adres met niet te wijzigen You
are "
messages/nl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.po:msgstr "Uw bent
afgemeld van de %(realname)s maillijst"
Binary file messages/nl/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.mo matches
Solution is simple: just s/Uw bent/U bent/g

This change seems to have been applied, and Debian doesn't seem to have a
patch to the NL translation now. Closing this bug; thanks for your
report!

More generally, Debian ships with a patched Dutch
translation (contributed by a user). SourceForge deems it
adequate to forbid me to attach it here, so contact the
maintainers at pkg-mailman-hackers(a)lists.alioth.debian.org
or take it from any Debian mirror.

Mailman version 2.1.6
Dears,
In the administration interface, within "Opções de Privacidade..." the field "Avisar esta lista quando pessoas perguntarem que listas estão
nesta máquina?" should be "Divulgar o nome desta lista quando alguém perguntar que listas existem nesta máquina?". The first phrase has a completely different meaning from the original, something like "Announce to this list when people ask what lists are on this machine?" instead of "Advertise this list when people ask what lists are on this machine?"
Regards,
Gabriel P. Silva

There's no patch attached to the bug, possibly due to a SourceForge
problem. If you remember the problem, can you please look at the current
source code at
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mailman-coders/mailman/2.1/files, and check if
the error is still there?

Summary: Mailman should detect mailextensions
Initial Comment:
Mailextensions are realised by adding "+extension" to the userpart of the e-mail-address. It's helpful to filter mailinglists and other stuff.
p.heinlein+extension1(a)heinlein-support.de is the same like "p.heinlein(a)heinlein-support.de".
If user+extension@ is subscribed to a mailinglist, Mailman should also accept user@ as a subscribed member address.

Summary: FAQ Wizard must add links to req=show on every page
Initial Comment:
Welcome to move this bug to where it belongs.
Q: On http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=all how does one link
to one of the individual FAQs?
One doesn't. One must go to
http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=index to find the links,
because for some reason, no HREF tags are implanted into the titles on
http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=all or an "edit" page.
I.e., I have just edited a FAQ and am starting at the results. But
there is no link for me to copy to send to my friend to tell him to
have a look. This is unlike Wikipedia, where there is always a link to
just view, an article.
Also at least in a Wikipedia TOC, one can find links to the anchors too...

The FAQ has been moved into the Wiki, so this FAQwizard issue no longer

Summary: incomplete reply link in archived posts
Initial Comment:
When viewing the archived messages/posts, one can reply to a post by clicking the mailto link next to the author's name. This is of the form
mailto:foo@bar.com?Subject=postsubject&In-Reply-To=unique_message_id
************
THE BUG
************
The unique id for In-Reply-To is present only for posts that are replies to another post. The top level posts don't have a unique id in the mailto link. It is simply blank like it's shown below.
mailto:foo@bar.com?Subject=postsubject&In-Reply-To=
******************
WHY IT MATTERS
******************
Some people may disable mail delivery when the mailing list becomes a high volume one. They can see the archived messages through the web front-end. If they are still subscribed to the mailing list, they can even reply to the list by clicking the above mentioned mailto link.
For messages which are replies to another post, the mailto link is properly formed having a unique messageid for use in the In-Reply-To header. However, for the top level posts, the mailto link is incomplete as the In-Reply-To is simply blank. If someone replied to a top level post by clicking it's reply link, the reply message will appear out-of-sync as a different top-level post instead of being a reply to the original post.

It's actually worse than you say. The In-Reply-To= in the mailto URL does
not contain the Message-ID: of the message being viewed. It contains the
In-Reply-To: of the message being viewed, and can be empty for a
subordinate message in a thread if that message doesn't contain an
In-Reply-To: and was threaded by References:. Thus, even when present, it
is wrong and results in improper threading of replies that use it.
I will look at fixing this, but the archiver is complex and fragile, so I
don't know how difficult this will be.

Thanks; applied to the small-fixes branch. I've made a further correction
-- 'globally/globalement' is an adverb, so I've moved it near the
verb.

I would love to see MailMan accept OpenID as a login method. It would take a load off of those of us with too many mailing lists to keep track of. Information on OpenID is available at OpenID.net

Presumably you would need to be able to log into your Mailman account with
the password once, in order to associate an OpenID URL with your account.
Alternatively, when the user initially joins a list, she could be
permitted to enter an OpenID URL instead of an initial password.

Mailman doesn't contain any man pages. The man pages in question were
probably added by your Linux distribution; I suggest reporting the issue in
their bug tracker.
