[Bug 543627] [NEW] mailman command does not initialize directory structure on first run

Public bug reported: Contrary to "src/mailman/docs/START.txt" which says Run the ``bin/mailman info`` command to see which configuration file Mailman will use, and where it will put its database file. The first time you run this, Mailman will also create any necessary run-time directories and log files. neither the mailman command alone nor running it with option "info" creates the initial directory structure. If you go with the default settings in mailman.cfg you probably won't notice because you are within the correct directory structure. But if you set "var_dir: /opt/mailman" in e.g. /etc/mailman.cfg things break. [Bug 610893] [NEW] Makefiles in 2.x use unsafe shell construct that can lead to infinite recursion

Public bug reported: Hi, I set CDPATH in my zsh shell, and somehow this caused off behaviour in /bin/sh (dash) when building mailman 2.x. It somehow stopped "cd $$d" from working when run from a Mailman makefile. While this was a problem with my environment, the build system's behaviour in the face of it isn't very nice. As the Makefiles use (cd $$d; make) if the cd fails, they run the make anyway, which causes infinite recursion. If this was changed to (cd $$d && make) or (make -C $$d) then this wouldn't happen and you would get an error message, rather than thrashing. [Bug 601419] [NEW] Adjust default list configuration on shared servers

Public bug reported: On shared servers, if you are managing tens or hundreds of lists, it can be very time consuming to manually adjust the settings for each new list, to the configuration you like. For example, we have to change 20 settings to get each list to behave as we like. It should be possible to set a default configuration in mailman (for individual shared hosting accounts). One way which could work quite well is if you could make a list "mailman_default_configuration(a)domain.com" - and when mailman makes a new list, if that default configuration list exists, it copies the settings from that. Or perhaps there are other ways which would work better..
