This might produce a SIGPIPE, and/or the corresponding IOError EPIPE, and I've experienced that these didn't always get caught -- an attempt at a fix is near the end of run_main in <URL: http://www.uio.no/~hmeland/tmp/mailman-userdb/scripts/driver>, but I'm by no means positive that it's the Right fix. -- Harald

list membership privacy

I've got a couple of patches to Mailman 2.0b2 that reduces the number of ways that someone can prob the membership of a list. It removes all errors from the options and subscribe pages that mention foo@bar is/is not on this list, and instead always say "bad password". You can still probe by trying to subscribe a person. Fixing this is more work, so I haven't done it yet... In short it improves member privacy to a level better than majordomo. DirectSMTP works fine with sendmail and all other MTAs I know of. The handing off of addresses in one blob is a simplification of the MTA handling logic for Mailman 2. A decent MTA should be able to handle having all the addresses in one chunk and make whatever efficiency saving are appropriate... however different MTAs will have different trade offs for this sort of operation - list handling is actually rather different in terms of message sizes, recipients etc than normal mail and also has slightly different requirements. using real user names for list members

Is it currently possible/or planned to use names like Real Name <email address> email address (Real name) as the name of a subscriber? For authentification the email address should be sufficeint.
