We have a member's group with 4 mailman lists and a member's db in mysql. I have a first version system working using php for the member's page and a couple of cmd wrappers so the php pages can add/del/modify users and the normal mailman options pages work. Anyone interested -- if so, where can I post the patchs on the mailman site -- I will post it locally once I get a few days of live time on the system. -- Later ... [Mailman-Developers] bug? "already subscribed" message for disabled accounts

Mailman 2.1 (which rocks in most respects) gives a message like this: > An attempt was made to subscribe your address to the mailing list > foo(a)bar.org. You are already subscribed to this mailing list. I agree with this in general, but it seems that it would be better to detect the case where the user has deliveries disabled. I'm sure some people will find this puzzling: they think they're unsubscribed, but Mailman says they are. Perhaps the message should conditionally tell them they have delivery disabled, and that it can be reenabled through the web interface. Cheers -- Martin please cc me on replies

Archiving crashing due to missing 'strptime'

Using Mailman 2.1 (final) on Mac OS X 10.1.5. I've got a bunch of these in my error log. They seem to happen every few days. The January archive for one of my lists wasn't there, so I tried to 'arch' it, and got this traceback (appended). Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've run fix_privs. I looked in the list archives and didn't see anything relevant. mailmanctl -s arg on service start

The mailman script which is used to start/stop/restart the mailman daemon invokes mailmanctl with the -s argument when starting the service. This argument purportedly is for stale lock clean up. One consequence of passing this arg during a service start is that mailmanctl bypasses the lockfile check. My understanding of the lockfile is to prevent multiple instances of the daemon to be run. But by passing the -s argument if someone does a "mailman start" more than once then there will be multiple instances of mailmanctl and its child qrunner processes running on the system rather than just one mailmanctl and its child qrunners. Issuing a "stop" only terminates the most recent mailmanctl and leaves the other mailman daemons effectively orphaned from a service point of view, these service instances can only be removed by killing their pid. If the -s is not passed as part the "start" invocation mailmanctl will enforce having only a single daemon. This is what I would expect to be the desired behavior. So my question is why is -s the "default" in 2.1? Should it be removed? John

Need a patch written for 2.1 for post-only access.

I'm not a Python programmer but I need a patch written to add a feature that someone had written a patch for in version 2.0. The patch called a "post-only" patch allowed me to create a list called "post-only" and members of this list were allowed to post to all other lists. I am the systems administration for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (http://www.eff.org). We are currently running 2.0 with this patch. The reason we need it is because we are running about 65 internal lists and several of our members have multiple email addresses they post from. The burden of adding several hundred alieases and maintaining them across this many lists would be too much to deal with. I have upgraded to 2.1 on my own personal server and I feel that it would greatly benefit EFF to upgrade to 2.1. But - I can not do it until I have this patch. I am therefore asking that someone out there write this patch. If you write it - I will publicly thank you in our newsletter that goes out to about 30,000 of our members. I offer 15 minutes of fame, and - you'll be helping us get important work done. EFF relies heavilly on Mailman. Below is the code for the current patch for 2.0. It looks to me that doing this for 2.1 would be trivial for someone who knew what they were doing. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone were to volunteer to do this. Alternatively - I would be willing to pay someone out of my own pocket - and donate the code back to the public - if I can't find someone to do it for free. Fix for cross-site scripting bug in Mailman 2.1.0

The cross-site scripting bug in Mailman 2.1.0 that was reported on Bugtraq has been fixed. My thanks to all who reported this (except unfortunately the person who posted it to bugtraq before contacting me first. :/ ). Special thanks to Tokio Kikuchi who worked out the essential fix. I've had it deployed here for near 8 months. Most of my lists receive ~40 SPAM messages per day, plus another ~20 virus messages -- and that's in addition to basic list mail. The -admin, and -owner addresses receive almost as many. Within those 8 months the number of either that have made their way thru TMDA either to Mailman or me (as -owner/-admin) can be counted on the fingers of two hands with fingers left to spare. Not bad for almost 8 months. Even better the number of valid messages which their posters have not bothered to confirm thru TMDA can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
