IMO, we're doing pretty good in this area today, but I would hate to see all the current WebUI code get thrown out and replaced with a Web2.0 AJAX/.NET framework.
I certainly agree that we want to make sure the UI is not /dependent/
on such fanciness, but I think it's acceptable for there to be some
reasonable use of modern web UI tools, as long as the interface
degrades gracefully. Remember that we have users who require
specialized browsers (e.g. screen talkers for the visually impaired)
and some people who use text-only browsers like links/lynx.
Ideally, I'd like to see everything in the FAQ Wizard get removed because it is no longer applicable. At the very least, for anything that is related to the UI, there should not be any entries to go into any FAQ, because it "just works".
Yep.
3. Completeness -- diametrically opposed to #1 and #2 above, anything that can be done from the command-line should be do-able from the WebUI. This includes things like editing posts in the archives, editing posts before approving them, etc....
I agree, although there's some work from the core to be done here.
Too much of the functionality is embedded in Cgi scripts and not
refactored out into utilities that other access methods could take
advantage of. List removal is something that comes to mind. OTOH,
this is something I have a keen interest in fixing.
Your work is very important to us.
I'm not sure you fully understand how important. Or how
difficult. ;)
Indeed! Hopefully fun too though :)
