I know the usual answer I've seen for this particular feature in the past has been essentially been "use your MTA" when blocking globally, because it is quite easy to do. But I want to second Chris' thought because those who don't have access to the MTA's config are unable to do anything about it. And those who administer mailman services but simply do not know how to configure the MTA to do this (like staff that cover me when I'm off of work) would find this sort of feature to be a lifesaver when they're directed to block a certain address on the server but are faced with over 100 lists to insert the address into.

Personally I'd just write a script to do it or configure the MTA, but I do see a clear need for something like this if it's possible at this stage in development to consider if it hasn't been already.

I thought I would ask a quick question on the development of Mailman 3. Over in the Mailman-Users list, Mark Sapiro mentions that he adds a regex into the ban_list of all of his lists.

Is there any consideration being given to having a global ban_list which applied across all lists for a mailman instance? It would be nice to have both a global and a list-specific ban_list mechanism. The global version would allow one to put in one ban entry in for all lists. An example would be Mark's regex for answerpot (a list message harvester).
