I don't think it make sense to have two lists at a site that differ only by case.

That may be, but if I'd like my list to be called MyList as opposed to mylist, why should Mailman dictate that it can't?

For duplicate-checking, sure, lowercase it internally, but it seems wrong to lowercase it in places where it doesn't matter.
