there has already been quite a bit of discussion about this project on this list. You could start by checking the archives and read what has been discussed so far. I'm sure this will get you started pretty well.

But start by reading the project page, especially the section "Mentors are Not Teachers", and the linked essay "How to SPAM". You need to be the active party here. Nobody has interest in mentoring a student who needs to be told what the next step is all the time.
